Paprika is Comin' to Town

Just found out that this month the Chicago International Film Festival will include two showings of Satoshi Kon's latest, Paprika. This sci-fi tale is about a machine that can enter people's dreams in order to solve their problems; of course, it gets hijacked by the wrong sort.

The real reason to check out the movie (as if its being a Satoshi Kon film isn't reason enough) is the voice casting for the heroine, Dr. Chiba, the repressed scientist, and Paprika, her vivacious fantasy self. Both are voiced by Megumi Hayashibara! The Queen of Seiyuu has been very selective since becoming a wife and mother, doing maybe 1 anime voice per year. Getting her for this major appearance was a serious coup!

Showings will be at the Landmark 21 theaters on Illinois Avenue near Navy Pier. Check in with the festival for details.
